Joan Heartfield, Ph.D., has been counseling and teaching for almost 25 years, specializing in couples counseling; sacred sexuality and tantra; communication; dance therapy; stress management, hypnotherapy, holotropic breathwork, voice dialogue, and depth work.
Dr. Heartfield earned her B.A. at Mills College; an M.A. in Dance, Drama and Theater from the University of Hawaii; an M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Antioch College; and a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the Professional School of Psychological Studies.
Dr. Heartfield has a private practice in Maui, Hawaii where she lives and works with her husband, Tomas Heartfield. With him she teaches workshops around the subject of relationship in Maui, California, Australia and Bali. She also teaches a certification course with Caroline Muir called The Divine Feminine Mysteries.
In addition to her traditional studies, Dr. Heartfield received a Holotropic Breathwork certification after studying with Stan Grof for 3 years. She spent time with Swami Muktananda and spiritual teacher Hana Veary studying meditation. She has been practicing yoga and tai chi ch’uan for the past 30 years. She has studied tantra with many well know teachers including Charles and Caroline Muir.
Dr. Heartfield has taken many groups to the Amazon to study with shamans. She now teaches workshops with her husband in Integral Tantra and Romancing The Beloved. Their book Romancing The Beloved is due out in 2004. They have a CD (and soon a video) called Opening To Love and a book called Sage Advice: Clear Answers To Relationship Questions.
